Define "Opinion page". In the Buddhist Extremists post, you wrote: "Boy I hate to even type that but it's happening in Myanmar: www.nytimes.com/2013/05/31/opinio....ms.html?hp&_r=0 It's hard to believe these guys are more than Buddhists by association (not real Dharma practitioners).I wonder what you all think about this?"

I'm responding to the title of your thread, that a newspaper's 'opinion page' makes something official. "Straight news reporters tend to lump opinion writing of all forms into the same bin; punditry, essays, agitprop and to therefore shy away from holding it to any defined standard. (This is why, for instance, the Washington Post blithely lets George Will misstate facts about climate science on its op-ed page.)" "In 1897, Dr. Philip O'Hanlon, a coroner's assistant on Manhattan's Upper West Side, was asked by his then eight-year-old daughter, Virginia O'Hanlon (1889 - 1971), whether Santa Claus really existed. O'Hanlon suggested she write to The Sun, a prominent New York City newspaper at the time, assuring her that "If you see it in The Sun, it's so."

My post is also a joke. Dan can tell you I always laugh at my own jokes. I am having a chuckle right now.
